Toxcity and Detoxification Programs
Most people believe that if they eat a healthy diet, exercise regularly, avoid cigarettes and excessive alcohol consumption that good health will follow. All of these strategies are indeed important; however, we cannot ignore the impact that the environment has on an individual’s overall health. There are more than 80,000 active chemicals in production in the United States, and our bodies have become a virtual dumping ground for thousands of toxic chemicals that have invaded our air, water and food supply.
The bottom line is that if you’re breathing, eating, drinking or bathing, you are being exposed to toxins. There is no way to live in this world and avoid them. Not only do we have to concern ourselves about the chemicals in our environment, we must also understand the impact of heavy metal exposure and its impact upon our health. Cadmium, aluminum, mercury, antimony, lead and arsenic are some of the heavy metals that have been added to the food chain by industrial discharges, pesticide runoff, manufacturing smokestacks as well as automobile and commercial vehicle exhaust. Also, the mercury that is in silver amalgams can be a chronic source of heavy metal exposure.
So, how can you determine if the environment has challenged your health?
Are you tired, cannot lose weight, have chronically low body temperature, moody, suffer from ADD or have memory problems, have unstable blood sugar and overwhelming carbohydrate cravings, developed rashes or skin problems, have high cholesterol or yeast overgrowth?
If you have answered yes to any of these symptoms, there is a distinct possibility that the toxic environment may be a contributor to your health issues. What happens is that these chemicals are stored in different parts of the body and accumulate at different rates and in different combinations. As they build up over a period of time, they can alter our metabolism, cause enzyme dysfunction and nutritional deficiencies, create hormonal imbalance, alter brain chemistry and can potentially cause cancer.
The saving grace is that our bodies have a “built in” detoxification system. Phase I enzymes and minerals work to remove toxic material from the body, and Phase II is a powerful detoxifier called glutathione which sends chemicals through the liver and eventually the kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract. This “built in” detoxification system, however, was not created to deal with literally thousands of chemical assaults on our bodies. Fortunately, there are protocols of diet, supplements and chelating agents that are designed to help optimize our body’s ability to clear our bodies of toxic chemicals and heavy metals.
If you’re not convinced that environmental toxicity can negatively impact your health, there are laboratory tests that inform you as to how your body is dealing with the inevitable toxic burden. Based on two years of research, earlier this year, we added two detoxification programs to the practice. Read below to learn more..
Detoxification Programs
After many years of researching about the most effective ways to detoxify the body from harmful contaminants, it is clear that we must support detoxification across all of the detoxification pathways, not just one. As examples, contaminants include free radicals, viral fragments, heavy metals, byproducts from plastics, insecticides, pesticides, byproducts from drugs and alcohol and importantly, biotoxins (mold, Lyme and related).
The detoxification process is very complex, but for simplicity, we will focus on the exit pathways for toxins of all sorts as a basis of understanding our comprehensive detoxification approach. Generally, the liver is considered the most important organ in the detoxification process and handles a significant portion of the detoxification actions in the body. Toxins exit from liver processing by the skin (sweat), bile (bowel) and kidneys (urine). But the lymphatic system is often overlooked but it is also very important. In combination with your circulatory system, the lymphatic system removes waste produced by your cells. This includes excess fluid, dead blood cells, cancer cells and toxins. This toxic waste then gets filtered through your kidneys and liver, and exits the body through fecal matter and urine.
Role of Binders
But is important to understand that due to genetics and biochemical differences between all of us, that not all of us are good across the entire spectrum of toxin elimination and at times binders are needed to help us detoxify in areas where our body falls short. Binders are specialized products that “bind” toxins via molecular affinity then remove them from the body so that they are not reabsorbed into the body. Taken orally in pill, powder, gel, or tincture form, binders are a crucial piece to our treatment protocols, whether they include removing environmental toxins, reducing toxin exposure, or treating infections. Different binders can attract different toxins, so it is important to test where possible so that we can identify the proper binder for the targets. For this reason, binders are an important part of our detoxification approach. For each patient, we use one or more of the following binders.
Biotoxin Binder – Best for binding biotoxins like mycotoxins and ammonia and other Lyme byproducts and other toxins from water-damaged buildings. This binder is not systemically absorbed.
Carboxy — Best for binding biotoxins including mycotoxins and other toxins from water-damaged buildings. This binder is systemically absorbed so it is a broad-spectrum binder as well.
ViRadChem — Best for binding viral fragments, preventing viral replication and VOCs. Helpful for patients diagnosed with reactivated viruses like EBV, CMV and HHV6 that we frequently see in patients with dysregulated immune systems.
HM-ET Binder. Best for binding pesticides, herbicides, and toxic heavy metals.
Putting it all together — Complete Detoxification
Based on lab results, exposures and symptoms, the detoxification plan for each patient is customized.
Binders: Every plan includes at least one binder, and appropriate dosing of the following supportive products.
Lymphatic Support: As discussed above, we must support the lymphatic system for complete detoxification support. Historically, we would wait for symptoms of lymphatic blockage but we have had much better success by including lymphatic support right from the start. Everyone needs it. For this, we use Cell Core’s LymphActiv product.
Liver and Kidney Support: As the liver is the workhorse of the detoxification system, it is clear that we have to support it, but the kidneys need support as well. We either use Cell Core’s KL support or Cell Core’s Tudca for kidney and liver support.
Additional support as needed: We use Cell Core’s CT-Minerals for maximum detoxification support. The heart of CT-Minerals is the naturally occurring, highly refined and naturally chelated extracts of Fulvic Acid. This means ultra small-sized and ultra-low-molecular-weight 100% organically complexed nano-sized negatively charged ionic molecules which can penetrate human tissue and blood cells easily. Because of these unique properties, this supplement is highly bioactive and can provide numerous biochemical and metabolic detoxification functions.
