About our Clinical Team
Lynese L. Lawson, D.O., ABAARM, IFMCP Dr. Lawson is the founder and medical director of Proactive Wellness Centers, PLC (PWC) of Tysons Corner, Virginia. Founded in 2006, PWC is one of the leading integrative and functional medicine specialty practices in the metropolitan DC area serving patients from Northern Virginia, Maryland, Washington DC and many who travel 1000s of miles. She is one of the elite Bredesen Certified practitioners under the new ReCode 2.0 protocol. The practice reflects her passion to bring an integrative approach to patient care that merges the latest in scientifically-validated treatment protocols with the best of conventional medical therapies.
Dr. Lawson, D.O., physician and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine spent the first 20 years of her career practicing “traditional” medicine, which focuses on medication and surgical interventions. Not satisfied that this was the optimal approach to helping patients, she left that to start Proactive Wellness Centers as a practice that specializes in treating men and women with bioidentical hormone replacement, weight management, CIRS/Mold illness, Lyme disease and parasitic infections. Most recently she has become certified through the Institute for Functional Medicine, in collaboration with Dale Bredesen, MD and MPI Cognition, in the treatment of Mild Cognitive Impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease using the Bredesen Protocol™. Across all modalities, she uses a functional approach to treating and preventing chronic disease, and therapies to reverse the symptoms of aging and enhance overall wellness and longevity. Dr. Lawson is a Shoemaker-Certified physician for diagnosing and treating CIRS/Mold illness and is Board Certified in Anti-Aging/Regenerative Medicine (ABAARM) by the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Additionally, Dr. Lawson also completed a certificate program in functional medicine with the Institute of Functional Medicine and a preceptorship program in Heart Attack and Stroke Prevention at the renowned Bale Doneen Institute. The functional medicine fellowship program emphasizes a thorough competency in the areas of nutrition, fitness, stress reduction, bioidentical hormone replacement and spirituality as a necessary basis for optimal health. Fellows obtain a rigorous understanding of the biochemistry and physiology of chronic disease. The BaleDoneen preceptorship teaches providers the BaleDoneen method of preventing heart attacks, ischemic strokes and type 2 diabetes.
Further, Dr. Lawson is an avid researcher and the Bredesen Protocol training has allowed her to bring together nearly 15 years of advanced clinical training and practice in diagnosing and treating chronic disease. She has developed significant expertise in treating patients that have combinations of CIRS/Mold, Lyme, parasites and Mast Cell Activation Disorder. She is seeing more and more patients that have 2-3, even all four of these diseases and she is working with some of the leading experts in developing and refining an approach for these severely ill patients. CIRS is an emerging epidemic and over 80% of CIRS cases are the result of patients living and/or working in water-damaged buildings. She is especially grateful for the published work of Dr. Shoemaker, et. al for their work in unraveling CIRS and providing an evidence-based treatment protocol that works. Dr. Shoemaker is a world renowned author, researcher and educator and the person that is largely responsible for much of the modern body of knowledge and evidence in diagnosing and treating CIRS.
The founding of Proactive Wellness Centers, PLC reflects Dr. Lawson’s passion to create and implement a practice that focuses on patient individuality, a high level of doctor-patient interaction and comprehensive patient education. When combined with her passion for continuous research, this approach helps patients achieve the optimal health they deserve.

Susan A. Greenberg, FNP-BC
Susan Greenberg is an experienced Nurse Practitioner and a certified ILADS (Lyme Disease) practitioner. She is proud to join Dr. Lawson and the Proactive Wellness Centers (PWC) team. As an experienced Nurse Practitioner, Susan combines clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating various health conditions with a focus on health management, promotion and disease prevention using a comprehensive, personalized approach. Susan is licensed to provide a full range of health care services, including ordering, performing, and interpreting diagnostic tests, diagnosing and treating acute and chronic conditions, prescribing medications, supplements and additional therapies, managing overall care, as well as counseling and educating patients and their families on disease prevention, diet and other positive lifestyle choices.
Susan reports that her first “integrative “ patient was her own father who in 1993 was diagnosed with end stage abdominal mesothelioma and was given 3 months to live. As a nurse with a Georgetown University degree, she knew how to do her research. She located and enrolled her father in a study at the NIH whose protocol appeared promising from a medical standpoint, but lacked any accompanying nutritional or lifestyle modification recommendations. She developed a targeted nutrition and lifestyle modification plan based on further research and felt this would be the perfect complement to the treatment he was receiving at the NIH. The result was that after 5 years, her father was the only living subject left in this study group; his quality of life was so superb that no one outside of her family was even aware that he was sick. He went on to out live a second study group in the ensuing 5 years. The research team was apprised of her interventions. The success of this integrative method made her a passionate advocate for this approach to healthcare.
Susan went on to become a Certified Nutritional Consultant and was a frequent speaker in community events, local news programs, and schools in Joplin, Missouri. She later obtained her Master’s Degree from Georgetown University’s Graduate School of Arts and Sciences where she took courses in Complementary and Alternative Medicine as part of her Nurse Practitioner training. She went on to work as an integrative Nurse Practitioner for many years before joining PWC. In addition, she now has an interest in using her skills to assist patients in the prevention and treatment of Mild Cognitive Impairment and early Alzheimer’s disease.
She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
