Supplement your spread with traditional dishes from this slice of New York in Fairfax. This modern Israeli restaurant in D.C.’s Cleveland Park will be serving charoset, braised salmon with olives and rice, and braised brisket with tzimmes (sweet potato, carrots, prunes and walnuts). These dishes are available for dine-in and takeout April 1-9. 3311 Connecticut Ave., Washington, D.C.

The catering arm of this grocery chain is ready to help this Passover. It has favorites such as burgundy-braised brisket, matzo ball soup and honey-lemon roasted salmon. Get a meal that serves four with sides such as Asparagus with Citrus & Herbs, Honey Roasted Carrots, and Garlic & Parsley Fingerling potatoes, or go a la carte. There’s no better time than March to stop into one of Arlington’s many Irish establishments.

Several pubs, bars and restaurants in Arlington and Falls Church are celebrating the drink, music and food of the Emerald Isle in the days leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, which is next Tuesday, March 17. Here’s a look at what is happening in the days ahead.

A week-long celebration at Celtic House will feature live Irish music, dancers and other festivities every day through St. Paddy’s. Reservations are encouraged.

If that’s your mantra, you’re in luck because this halal meat taqueria opened Feb. 9 in Ballston in Grill Kabob’s old spot. Get Mexican-style street eats such as Pizza Birria (slow-braised beef birria and cheese on a crispy crust), burritos in wrapped and bowl form, and, of course, tacos. Get traditional carne asada or try a specialty taco such as the Governador Shrimp Tacos Trio (sauteed shrimp folded with caramelized onions, peppers and melted cheese). January Openings

This pizzeria started as a single restaurant in Atlantic City, New Jersey, has become a national brand with a cult following as a pizzeria and cheesesteak institution. (If the name sounds familiar, you might have seen it on Shark Tank in 2025, when its Mad Mutz were featured.) The DMV got its first outpost of the restaurant Jan. 27 at Upside on Moore. The menu includes the famous Mad Mutz Sticks in a variety of flavors, plus cheesesteaks and pizzas available by the slice or whole, such as Swamperoni (pink vodka, smoked cup and char pepperoni, fresh mutz and smoked mozzarella, and ‘roni ranch). 700 N. Daniella Senior continues opening new locations of this Cuban restaurant, this time at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. As of Jan. 14, travelers can fuel up for a flight with croquetas filled with ham or chicken, empanadas stuffed with spinach and cheese, and Platanachos, plantain chips layered with black bean dip, mozzarella and cotija cheeses, and sofrito relish. K-Pop Demon Hunters fans, this is your moment. This new Korean cuisine spot replaces Hangry Joe’s Hot Chicken & Wings in Ballston and has advertisements featuring scenes from the popular 2025 movie. One poster promises a “derpy tiger keychain” with purchase. Get kimbap filled with veggies, meat or cheese; rice bowls; and fried rice with kimchi, pork or beef. 875 N. December Openings

Joining four other local locations, including one in Tysons Corner, this new Little City establishment’s name says it all, but also doesn’t. Sure, you can get tacos stuffed with blackened, beer-battered or grilled fish, but they also come with steak, chicken and veggies. Plus, the menu includes bowls, burritos, quesadillas and starters like ceviche. Round out your meal with a frozen or on-the-rocks marg. The new spot opened around Dec. 22. 930 W. Looking for a sweet start to 2026? As of Dec. 19, you can get Kilwins famous chocolate, fudge and ice cream in Clarendon. It’s the fourth DMV location of the 78-year-old chain that started in Michigan. Ice cream flavors include Sea-Salt Caramel, Cappuccino Chocolate Chip and Superman, a rainbow swirl of fruity flavors. Part Brazilian steakhouse and part omakase, this new Tysons restaurant that opened Dec. 17 blends the cultures at every opportunity. Get high-end cuts of meat sliced tableside right off the skewer, or go for The Churasuko Experience. Priced at $250 per person, it’s a coursed meal that comes with sashimi, miso lobster bisque soup, wagyu fried rice, and all-you-can-eat continuous rounds of Japanese A5 Wagyu, American Wagyu, and Australian Wagyu. The long-awaited beer garden—housed in a former motor lodge—opened Dec. 16. Founded by brothers Arash and Afsheen Tafakor, owners of Dominion Wine & Beer and Brick House Butcher, the new spot is a full-service restaurant and bar with a café and, as the name suggests, a large outdoor drink garden. 300 W. The fast-casual Italian spot that serves handcrafted pasta opened in Ballston Quarter on Dec. 14. (It also has a location at Tysons Galleria.) The star of the menu is the build-your-own pasta option, with five types of pasta and sauces such as bolognese and cacio e pepe. Top it with a meatball or burrata. With a goal of giving “McLean a true neighborhood gathering place,” this newbie to the downtown area opened Dec. 8. Although no menu is available online yet, the restaurant will serve American dishes such as steak and wings, plus hand-crafted cocktails. 6671 Old Dominion Drive, McLean

The ranking suggests Virginians should head to Clarendon for salmon and deep-fried cod sandwiches.

There are times when any old sandwich will do, and other occasions when the scrumptious concoction between two pieces of bread is worth a drive. In Virginia, that means a visit to the Clarendon area of Arlington, according to a recent list of the best sandwich shops in every state.

The 50 Best sandwich shops list compiled by Only In Your State, a digital travel and lifestyle website, says Earl's in Clarendon is serving up mid-Atlantic favorites like grilled-to-order salmon and deep-fried cod sandwiches.

“If you're the type who believes sandwiches are always better when made by someone else, Earl's delivers 'homemade without the hassle' every time,” Only In Your State wrote.

The other sandwich joints on the list are “places that locals swear by, road-trippers detour for, and first-time visitors immediately add to their must-return list,” the site said, adding that some places on the list have been perfecting a signature sandwich for decades, while others innovate with bold combinations and unexpected twists.

“From no-frills neighborhood delis and legacy counter spots to modern shops reinventing the classics, great sandwiches tell the story of the places and people behind them,” the site said. “They reflect regional flavors, immigrant influences, and the kind of care that turns bread, meat, cheese, and condiments into something unforgettable.”

Construction is underway to improve connectivity, enhance public spaces, and preserve the Village at Shirlington's historic character.

ARLINGTON, VA — Federal Realty Investment Trust announced a phased program of comprehensive enhancements at the Village at Shirlington. The project aims to improve connectivity, enhance public spaces, and preserve the property’s historic character. Construction has begun and is anticipated to continue through November.

Planned improvements include expanded sidewalks and outdoor dining patios along Campbell Avenue. This will create more comfortable al fresco seating areas. New wayfinding and property signage, decorative lighting, upgraded site furnishings, and unified landscaping treatments will be installed throughout the village. The North Courtyard, the Library Plaza, and the breezeway adjacent to Jenni’s Ice Cream will receive new seating and curated public art installations.

Architectural refinements to the facade along the North Courtyard are also part of the plan. The circa 1986 Beaux Arts fountain will be relocated and recommissioned from the Campbell Avenue median to the North Courtyard. This will include a new basin, integrated seating, and coordinated landscaping. Enhancements to the North and South Vias are intended to improve pedestrian circulation and elevate the overall visitor experience.

The improvements also incorporate targeted infrastructure and environmental measures. New stormwater controls will reduce runoff and protect Four Mile Run. Street lihting will convert to energy-efficient LED fixtures, and the existing tree canopy will be preserved to maintain neighborhood shade.

Mike Ennes, Senior Vice President of Asset Management at Federal, stated that the investment meets the evolving needs of the community and businesses. He added that integrating historical character with elevated amenities enhances the destination for decades to come.

All businesses will remain open during construction. Temporary disruptions are expected, including partial road closures along Campbell Avenue. Directional signage will be installed to guide vehicular and pedestrian traffic throughout the renovation period.
