Mount Vernon will free admission on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 20, and Wednesday, Feb. 22. Tickets will be limited and distributed on site. Another Presidents Day weekend event will be the George Washington Birthnight Supper & Ball, a black-tie gala in celebration of George Washington's 291st birthday, on Feb. 19.
Other George Washington Birthday Celebration festivities are happening in the City of Alexandria, including the George Washington Birthday Parade and Rededication of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial’s Cornerstone on Feb. 20.

On Thursday evening, the Fairfax County School Board adopted the FY 2024 Advertised Budget which prioritizes student achievement, and recruiting and retaining outstanding educators.
The FY 2024 Advertised Budget totals $3.5 billion–a net increase of $249.6 million or 7.6% over the FY 2023 Approved Budget. To support the investments included in this budget, the superintendent is requesting an additional $159.6 million, or a 7.0% increase, from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Nearly 86% of the Advertised Budget is targeted at instruction.
The budget includes innovative investments that aim to close the achievement gap for all students, including:

Additional investments are earmarked to support student mental health and wellness, which impact students’ ability to thrive in school--and life. Funding will also allow an increase in family liaisons across all schools, extended high school counseling for students into the summer break, and free access to middle school athletics.
In light of the ongoing teacher shortage throughout the country, the FY 2024 Advertised Budget seeks to position FCPS as the preferred place to work by offering competitive financial packages to attract and retain excellent teachers and staff. The budget includes:
Special Education Teacher Extended Day contracts currently funded in FY 2023 with Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) funds will continue to be funded with ESSER III in FY 2024.
Increased security measures and continuation of green investments are also acknowledged in the FY 2024 Advertised Budget.
The School Board is scheduled to present the FY 2024 Advertised Budget to the County Board of Supervisors (BOS) on April 11. FCPS is extremely grateful to the County Executive and BOS for their support and looks forward to our continued collaboration.

Two Eagles played college ball at Old Dominion University in Norfolk — long snapper Rick Lovato and wide receiver Zach Pascal.
A graduate of Middletown South High School in Middletown, New Jersey, Lovato played four years for the Monarchs before signing with the Green Bay Packers in December 2015.

In 2018, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts and player there before joining the Eagles in 2022. During the regular season, he racked up 2,038 yards on 165 catches, averaging 12.4 yards a carry. He also scored 16 touchdowns.
