The Proactive Wellness Approach to Health and Wellness
Our programs are all about reversing and slowing the aging process, preventing disease, and treating chronically ill patients. We utilize a three-pronged approach: Firstly, we equip you with the knowledge that is required to take charge of your health and achieve optimal well-being. Secondly, we focus on disease prevention by providing a thorough evaluation using comprehensive diagnostics and the information provided on your health history form. Finally, we work closely with you to implement a rejuvenation program consisting of science-based treatments that reduce cellular degeneration, promote tissue regeneration, and help you live life at a healthy weight.

We do NOT replace the role of the family physician. Instead, we work with your primary care physicians, internists, and other medical professionals to provide optimum integrated care. We consider you and your body as physiologically unique. We don't subscribe to a "one size fits all" approach - especially when it comes to medical weight loss in Tysons Corner, VA. Instead, our programs focus on a customized approach that will address risk factors that, if avoided or modified, could have beneficial effects for reducing premature mortality from chronic conditions like obesity. To help you on your journey, we may prescribe medications like semaglutide to get your weight loss plan started.
At the end of the day, our goal is to be a reliable, expert source of guidance and motivation. Like Oatlands Historic House Gardens near Tysons Corner, VA, we stand tall for our patients. Our highly-rated weight loss centers utilize the power of tirzepatide to deliver a comprehensive and effective approach to weight management.
Total Metabolism Tracking with Lumen

Our medical professionals are here to provide the support you need to kickstart these lifestyle changes and transform your views on physical activity, diet, and nutrition.
Our weight loss coaching schedule is customized for you and your body. Generally, you'll visit our weight loss clinic eight times over a 12-week period. Here's a breakdown of our health coaching schedule when used in a typical medical weight loss plan:
Visit 1
Discussion of Body Composition and Patient Goals
We'll discuss your body composition in detail. During this first step, you'll come to the office for bi-weekly visits if geographically feasible. We'll discuss the role of our Lumen device in terms of metabolism tracking.
Action: We'll advise you to keep a food diary for the next visit. Use the Lumen device daily.

Visit 2
Discuss Food Diary and Make Appropriate Suggestions for Improvement
This step focuses on total caloric intake and healthy eating. Go deep here as much as time allows. For your medical weight loss plan to be truly successful, you've got to set the foundation for healthy eating. You can't just go to Eddie V's Prime Seafood near Tysons Corner, VA and gorge yourself on your favorite foods after working out. As such, during this step, we'll explain that we do not recommend "dieting." The goal is to change your eating habits so that they can be maintained well after your weight-loss program is over.
Action: We'll ask you to keep an exercise diary for next week. We may also suggest that you get an activity tracker for more accurate tracking.

Visit 3
We'll ask you to keep an exercise diary for next week. We may also suggest that you get an activity tracker for more accurate tracking.
This week, we'll focus on anaerobic exercise for at least 30 minutes 4-5 times per week. You should prioritize aerobic exercises. If they only have time for one or the other, then advise anaerobic.
Action: We'll advise you to get a new body composition reading prior to next week's visit.

Visit 4
Discuss Progress of Lack Thereof vs. Week One Baseline.
Keep in mind that at this point, you're at the building stage of your weight-loss medication, so we are not expecting a lot of fat loss. In terms of medical weight loss in Tysons Corner, VA, losing 3-4 lbs. of fat in the first month while on semaglutide is a big success. Many patients with 75-100 lbs. to lose report losing up to 25 lbs. in the first month. We'll also check in with you to ensure you've been compliant with dietary and exercise recommendations and medication adherence.
Action: If there has been no fat loss or even fat gain, we'll need to discuss the case with our medical director for possible additional interventions. We may advise you to track sleep for next week, preferably with a sleep tracking device, but if not, then just manual tracking (time to bed, time waking up, how many times they awake for the night, sleep hygiene questions).

Top 5 Ways to Maintain Your Medical Weight Loss in Tysons Corner, VA
You'll have the chance to exit and divert from your journey, but by staying the course, you can reach your destination and keep unhealthy weight off for good. But doing so isn't always easy. That's especially true when there are distractions and fast-food restaurants around every corner.
Keep these science-based tips in mind to help stay on track and say "no" to foods and behaviors that will set you back.
-
Treat Yourself to a Healthy Breakfast Daily
Maintaining a consistent eating routine is crucial for managing your food intake effectively. This might mean eating at the same times every day or opting for similar meals each day. By establishing a structured approach to your eating habits, you create a helpful framework to follow, which can significantly benefit your health without the need to fixate on calories and portion sizes. This structure can aid in regulating your appetite, boosting your energy levels, and enhancing your overall diet. Moreover, starting your day with a large, high-protein breakfast has been linked to better control over your appetite, improved blood sugar levels, and more effective calorie management throughout the day.

2. Try to Stay Consistent
At Proactive Wellness Centers, we often highlight how important consistency is for weight loss, as sticking to your health changes is the most effective way to achieve results. However, consistency also plays a key role in keeping unwanted weight off for long periods of time. It's not solely about sticking to change; it's about developing daily habits and routines that pave the way for success.
3. Keep Exercising!
Engaging in regular physical activity is a proven way to effectively manage your weight, as it aids in burning calories and optimizing the use of the food you eat. The amount of exercise needed to keep your weight in check can differ based on individual factors and the types of workouts you choose. At Proactive Wellness Centers, we offer personalized medical weight loss plans in Tysons Corner, VA for our patients and provide exercise tips tailored to your body, age, and other considerations. This approach ensures you find a balance that prevents burnout and helps you avoid overexertion.

4. Say "Goodbye" to Processed Food
Enjoying a honey bun occasionally isn't going to kill you. However, when it comes to losing weight, it's crucial to limit or even eliminate processed foods from your meals. Foods that are heavily processed usually have empty calories and tend to contain high amounts of added sugars. Empty calories refer to calories that offer little to no nutritional value or health benefits. That makes them ideal for cutting out of your diet. Although managing your weight revolves around calorie management at its core, studies have associated the consumption of processed foods, particularly those rich in added sugars, with higher body weights and a greater likelihood of weight gain.
Moreover, research indicates that decreasing the intake of heavily processed foods might be more effective for managing weight. One study revealed that the body could burn up to twice as many calories when digesting simple foods compared to heavily processed ones. Additionally, ongoing studies continue to show that a diet predominantly made up of whole foods is linked to improved weight management outcomes.
5. Eat a Lot of Non-Starchy Veggies
Vegetables are packed with nutrition rather than empty calories. They offer a wealth of nutrients while contributing very few calories to your diet. This means you can enjoy greater nutritional benefits without consuming large amounts of food. For instance, two cups of broccoli come in at just 60 calories, while two cups of cooked pasta can spike up to nearly 500 calories. Plus, since our bodies require proper nutrition to function well, some studies suggest that increasing your intake of nutrient-dense foods like non-starchy vegetables can help keep hunger at bay. By loading up on low-calorie veggies, you can feel satisfied without overeating.

RICHMOND, VA — Legislation that would pave the way for a casino to be built in Tysons was approved Monday by the Gaming Subcommittee of the Virginia Senate.
Senate Bill 982 — which would give the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors the power to put a casino referendum on a ballot for residents to decide — passed on a 5-2 vote with Sen. Adam P. Ebbin (D-Alexandria) abstaining. The bill now moves back to the full General Laws & Technology Committee for consideration at its next scheduled meeting on Wednesday.
Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell (D-Mount Vernon), the chief patron of the bill, told subcommittee members that Virginia needed a “crown jewel” like Maryland’s MGM National Harbor Hotel & Casino.
“The creation of a mixed-use, transit-oriented entertainment district that would include not only a casino, but a state-of-the-art conference facility and performing arts venue is estimated to contribute an additional $140 million in annual revenue the county, in addition to over millions of dollars for the Commonwealth,” said Julie Coons, president and CEO of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce, who spoke in favor of the bill. "If approved by the Board of Supervisors, a development of this nature would diversify and broaden tax revenue for Fairfax County.”
When asked about the vocal opposition to the proposal, Surovell first dismissed opponents from the Reston area, saying they were miles from where the project would be built. He then acknowledged that the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors had not requested the authority to add a casino referendum to the ballot, but the board has not taken an official position on the proposed casino.

Patch first reported in September 2023 that Comstock Holding Companies wanted to build a casino somewhere in Fairfax County on Metro’s Silver Line outside the Capital Beltway. During the 2024 session, Marsden added language to the bill narrowing the location to Tysons.

Instead, only two supervisors — Walter Alcorn (D-Hunter Mill) and Jimmy Bierman (D-Dranesville) — have spoken publicly against the casino, which would not be built in either of their districts, according to Surovell. Supervisor Dalia Palchik (D-Providence), who represents the location of the proposed entertainment district, has not taken an official position.
Bierman represents McLean, which borders the Tysons district inside the Capital Beltway. The eastern boundary of Alcorn’s district ends at Route 7, which puts it across the street from where the gaming facility would be built.
Claudia Arko, a lobbyist representing the board of supervisors, agreed the board has not taken an official position, but Chairman Jeff McKay (D) wrote a letter in January 2024 outlining the county’s concerns.
“What you’ll see in the letter is our concern about the revenue split,” she said. “I understand that it’s the same revenue split for the other localities, but obviously when funding formulas are created for Fairfax County, we tend to not get the best deal."
"As the law stands today, the Commonwealth would receive over 70 percent of the gaming tax revenue generated by a Fairfax County casino," McKay's letter says. "This is especially relevant given the fact that the location outlined in the bill has the potential to generate significant local tax revenue without a casino."
Arko also addressed claims by Surovell that the Tysons casino project would address the county’s budget shortfall and generate funding to help alleviate that.
“The real issue for our property tax and the fact that we’re having to increase it so much is that the state just doesn’t fund schools to the degree that they should for Fairfax,” she said. “For example, when you all give a 3 percent raise for teachers, the state pays about 20 percent of that. We pay about 80 percent. So if it costs $100 million, which sometimes it does, you all pay about $20 million and we pay $80 million.”
Virginia Diamond, president of the Northern Virginia Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, also spoke in favor of the bill, saying it would generate 5,000 union jobs. She was followed by a long line of union representatives, who each said their chapter supported the proposed project.
Connie Hartke of the No Fairfax Casino Coalition was the first of a long line of Fairfax County residents to speak in opposition to the legislation. She asked the senators to delay passing SB982 until after House Bill 2498 is enacted. This bill would create the Virginia Gaming Commission to oversee and regulate all forms of legal gambling.
“Any new gaming legislation such as the establishment of a casino in Tysons Corner should be put on hold until this agency is fully operational,” she said. “This will ensure the agency can properly evaluate and regulate new projects to align with its mission. This casino bill is designed to benefit private interests, not the Fairfax County community opposed to the bill.”

New renderings of potential Tysons casino released
We're getting a sneak peak at what a possible casino and entertainment complex could look like in Tysons. New renderings are circulating as lawmakers in the Commonwealth introduce new legislation in the general assembly to make it all happen.
VIENNA, Va. - A proposed casino and entertainment complex in Tysons Corner is moving one step closer to reality as new renderings and legislation spark fresh debate.
Virginia Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell has introduced a bill in the General Assembly that could pave the way for Fairfax County’s first casino.
The proposal includes plans for a sprawling 1.5-million-square-foot facility featuring a casino, conference center, entertainment venues, restaurants, and more.
"This would be a full-service casino," Surovell said, addressing criticisms about the project. "We already have gambling facilities near sensitive locations like Quantico and national security sites. People who want to gamble have plenty of opportunities today, whether through physical locations or online sports betting."
Featured
Security leaders in Fairfax County are voicing new concerns about safety and security risks surrounding possible casinos in the Tysons Corner area.
FOX 5 obtained the renderings, which offer a glimpse of what the complex could look like, with potential sites near Leesburg Pike and Spring Hill Road in Vienna. While supporters tout the economic benefits and entertainment potential, opponents, including McLean resident Sally Horn, remain skeptical.
"What the proponents of the bill have said is, ‘That casino would only be 5% of the entire complex.’ And so what’s so bad about that? My reaction is, that’s the part that’s a problem," Horn said.
Comstock Companies is reportedly in talks to develop the project. The bill outlines requirements for the complex to include amenities such as a conference center and entertainment venues.
With discussions in the early stages, the proposal has a long road ahead, navigating legislative hurdles and public scrutiny. For now, the possibility of a casino in Tysons has ignited a conversation across the Commonwealth about the future of entertainment and development in Northern Virginia.

MOUNT VERNON, VA — Fairfax County NAACP is hosting a discussion of the proposed Tysons entertainment complex at 6:30 p.m. on Jan. 7, 2025, at the Gum Springs Community Center, according to a post on the organization’s social media.

Representatives from Comstock Development Corp., the Reston-based developer behind the proposal to build an entertainment district anchored by a casino somewhere on Metro’s Silver Line in Fairfax County, will be part of a panel that includes the NoVA Labor Federation AFL-CIO and the No Casino Coalition. Both groups have come out publicly to support and oppose, respectively, plans to build a casino in Tysons.

Terry Clower, the director of the Center for Regional Analysis and the Stephen Fuller Institute, will also participate in the panel.

In a 2023 Virginia Mercury article, Clower noted that while advocates say a casino with restaurants, hotels and concert halls would create a go-to destination for out-of-towners to spend money at local businesses, he questioned whether the market could support a second casino and entertainment district with the MGM-branded casino just across the Potomac River in Maryland.
On Tuesday, Patch first broke the news that Sen. Dave Marsden (D-Burke), who introduced the two previous casino referendum bills during the 2023 and 2024 general assembly sessions, would not reintroduce the bill in the next session, as he previously stated.
Instead, Senate Majority Leader Scott Surovell (D-Mount Vernon), who represents the Gum Springs community in Richmond, will carry the legislation this time.
In an email to Patch on Monday, Surovell confirmed he was carrying the casino legislation this session. “It will have a referendum,” he said, adding that he was still working on the rest.
Prefiling of bills for the 2025 legislative session began on July 15 and will end at 10 a.m. on Jan. 8, 2025, which is when the general assembly convenes in Richmond. The last day for legislators to introduce bills and certain joint resolutions is Friday, Jan. 17.
Gum Springs Community Center is located at 8100 Fordson Road in Alexandria. Seating is limited. NAACP encourages anyone who wishes to attend to scan the QR Code below.
