When men lose significant amounts of testosterone, it alters their body's levels of testosterone and estrogen. Lower T levels usually result in abdominal fat, which in turn causes estrogen synthetize levels to increase, creating even higher levels of estrogen in the body. With more estrogen and less testosterone, a number of concerning issues begin to surface. Some of the symptoms of low testosterone include:

  • Erectile Dysfunction
  • Lowered Libido
  • Lowered Sperm Count
  • More Body Fat
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Issues with Concentration
  • Male Breast Development
  • Less Muscle Mass
  • Motivation Issues

If you're a man struggling with one or more of the symptoms above, it could be because you have low testosterone. But the only way you can find out for sure is to have your testosterone levels tested by a wellness center like Proactive Wellness. If your testosterone levels are low, TRT in Sterling, VA, may be the answer to your low-T problems.

Depression

Depression

Your brain is home to many testosterone receptors, but when your body has low T, it can affect your mood. With time, poor spirits can lead to serious psychological issues, like depression. However, studies show that TRT in Sterling, VA, can rebalance your hormones, which can help relieve depression and improve your mood.

What are the Risks of Living with Low Testosterone?

Some of the most concerning health risks you should be aware of include the following:

 Sexual Function Sterling, VA
heart-health

Heart Health

If you've been told by a doctor that you have high blood pressure, you're probably wondering what it stems from. Is it aging? Is it hereditary? Is it something else? According to academic research, men with low T have a higher chance of developing cardiovascular illnesses. When testosterone levels are low, red blood cell reproduction suffers. When that happens, plaque buildup in your arteries may be accelerated. With time, plaque building can lead to very serious problems like strokes and heart attacks.

Anemia

Anemia

When you have anemia, your body has a lack of or dysfunctional red blood cells, meaning your organs have less oxygen with which to function. Because testosterone has a role in healthy red blood cell production, it makes sense that men with low t have a higher risk of anemia. In fact, a 2009 study found that older men with low T are 5x more likely to be anemic than men with healthy levels of testosterone. While TRT in Sterling, VA, isn't a cure for anemia, it will help produce more red blood cells in your body, which can prevent anemia.

Diabetes

Diabetes

If you have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes, and you're trying to figure out why, it may be linked to your T levels. That's because men with low testosterone have a greater chance of developing diabetes as they age. Similarly, men with diabetes are much more likely to have low testosterone, establishing a relationship between diabetes and testosterone. This relationship is further solidified by the fact that men with low T have a more challenging time resisting insulin. Though TRT won't cure diabetes, studies show that men with healthy testosterone levels also have healthier blood sugar levels and are often less obese.

Obesity

Obesity

If you look in the mirror in the morning and can't stand how much body fat you've gained since getting older, you're not alone. Many aging men have problems with their waistlines. If you eat well and exercise regularly but still can't get rid of that unsightly stomach or body fat, the culprit may be low testosterone. Multiple studies have shown the link between obesity and low T. In fact, testosterone plays an important role in food metabolism by regulating insulin, glucose, and fat. Fortunately, when combined with diet and exercise, men who undergo TRT can often lose weight and enjoy improved blood glucose and low-density cholesterol levels.

Testosterone replacement therapy does precisely what it sounds like: It is a science-backed therapy that replaces low testosterone levels in men. The ultimate goal of TRT is to improve your life and well-being by balancing your hormones. Also referred to as androgen replacement therapy, TRT helps many men deal with and overcome the debilitating side effects of low T.

Originally developed by scientists in the 1930s, TRT has grown substantially in popularity over the years. Today, it is one of the most common and promising treatments for males with low testosterone.

How Does TRT Work?

Without getting too scientific, TRT works by providing your body with the testosterone it needs to function properly. Without healthy levels of testosterone, the male body can't maintain the natural processes it needs for overall health. In fact, men with low testosterone levels are more prone to serious health problems like type-2 diabetes and even heart disease. Until their T levels are restored to normal, most men suffer until they find a solution.

That's where TRT comes into play. With balanced hormones, your body can finally begin to heal, causing most symptoms of low t to diminish greatly.

Trust The Proactive Wellness Difference

Did you know that 13 million males suffer from low T, but a whopping 90% go untreated by doctors? The reason is that conventional doctors believe that unless your Testosterone level is below the low lab reference range level, that your are "OK". At Proactive Wellness, we help you to optimize and be the best you can be, not just OK. Why be OK, when with the help of the right Testosterone dose, you can feel better, be healthier, stronger and more vibrant. If you believe that your testosterone levels are at unhealthy levels, it's time to contact Proactive Wellness Centers for testing. Living with low testosterone is a risk, but with personalized TRT in Sterling, VA, you can minimize the harmful effects on your body.

Unlike other TRT clinics, we utilize a more complete and personalized approach to Testosterone Replacement Therapy. Our approach considers the role of DHEA, another very important hormone that needs to be balanced. And we look at Estradiol conversion, the unwanted effect where some men convert too much Testosterone to estradiol. In this case, these men (about 10%) need a medication to block this conversion, called an aromatase inhibitor. But notice that I mentioned that only 10% of men need this, but at many men's clinics, all men automatically get an aromatase inhibitor whether they need it or not. This drives Estradiol too low, causing other issues. Yes, Men need Estradiol also, but they need it in the proper proportion. Bottom line, our personalized approach ensures that you get exactly what you need, no more and no less.

Further, Proactive Wellness offers the widest range of Testosterone Replacement options so that men can choose the best for their particular lifestyle. Choose from pellets that are inserted just under the skin and last for 4-5 months, or the most popular option, Test Cypionate injections that are typically done weekly, or specialized transdermal cream or even a specialized intranasal application that mimics natural testosterone levels. Any of these methods are available at Proactive Wellness Centers so that you can get the option that is right for you.

Is testosterone replacement therapy enough? Maybe, it all depends on your goals and your lab results. Many men are also deficient in growth hormone (GH) and this hormone can also contribute to you not being your best. If this one is low, Proactive Wellness offers a range of Growth Hormone Releasing Hormone (GHRH) peptides to increase your GH levels. Many men combine this with TRT to feel their absolute best.

If you're ready to reclaim your confidence and return to loving life on your own terms, our physicians and medical team are ready to help. Don't be one of those men who constantly complain about their health but don't do anything about it. Contact Proactive Wellness Centers today to make a difference in your life!

STERLING, Va. — The community is coming together once again to help raise money for a victim after a deadly house explosion in Sterling on Friday.

Now, money is being raised for Maria Pia Apolonio, who goes by "Pia," the second resident of the home.

According to a GoFundMe, Pia was staying in the basement of the home at the time of the explosion. On Friday, she was frantically woken up by the homeowner and firefighters who urged her to get out of the home. Fortunately, Pia made it out moments before the home exploded.

"I remember getting into my car. Before I could close my door, the house exploded," Pia said.

Pia moved from the Philippines to D.C. back in 2017 with only two suitcases in tow. Lauren Opauiski, the one organizing Pia's GoFundMe, said, "Between the years of 2017 and 2024, Pia built a new life for herself. She established herself in a thriving career, made a new friend group, and proudly became a U.S. citizen."

Opauiski said since Pia was only staying in the basement, she has no renters insurance to help her start over, so every donation counts.

Anyone who wishes to donate to Pia's GoFundMe can do so here.

So far, over $8,000 has been raised out of its $20,000 goal.

CNN —

A house exploded in Sterling, Virginia, on Friday night as fire crews were inside checking a gas leak, leaving one firefighter dead and at least 13 others injured, including 11 first responders, officials say.

The injured first responders and two civilians were hospitalized after the blast, according to Loudoun County Fire and Rescue. Their injuries ranged from severe to less severe. Four of the first responders remained hospitalized Saturday morning, according to an update from Fire and Rescue.

The department identified the deceased firefighter as 45-year-old Trevor Brown, who was with the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company and had been affiliated with Loudoun County Fire and Rescue since 2016.

Loudoun County Fire-Rescue

Crews responded to the home around 7:40 p.m. ET Friday after getting a 911 call about a gas odor coming from the residence, the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System said in a news release Saturday.

At a press conference Saturday, system Chief Keith Johnson said authorities assume the explosion “was propane-related,” as firefighters had arrived at the home in Sterling to assess a leak in a 500-gallon underground propane tank, where the gas had migrated into the home.

“I do not have any complete cause of the fire. We can assume it was propane-related, but no complete cause has been initiated,” Johnson said.

Johnson said firefighters entered the home with appropriate PPE and the two occupants of the home, as well as their pets, were removed. Shortly before 8:30 p.m., units on the scene reported a “catastrophic explosion” that caused firefighters inside the home to become trapped and injured others outside the structure.

“One, we have to check for occupants, we make sure that everybody’s out of the house, and then we have to control the leak. That’s our job – to try and control the leaking propane,” Johnson said. The chief commended the home’s occupant for reporting the gas smell to 911.

Multiple maydays and calls for help came from the wreck, and crews rushed to find and rescue firefighters in the debris. Officials said there were “varying degrees of injuries.” According to the chief, the four members of the Loudoun County fire rescue system that remain in the hospital are expected to survive.

Photos and video of the aftermath of the show a huge plume of smoke billowing from the leveled home with debris scattered into the street. Multiple fire trucks and emergency vehicles could be seen responding.

Loudoun County Fire and Rescue assistant chief of operations James Williams described the scene as “total devastation.”

“This is the worst call that we can respond to,” he said. “This is a time where we need to support each other and hold each other up.”

WUSA

The two civilians were home at the time of the incident, and they were transported with minor injuries, a department spokeswoman told CNN via email.

The cause of the explosion is being investigated but officials said it is believed to have been an isolated incident and that there isn’t an ongoing threat to the community.

Sterling is about 20 miles northwest of Arlington and is less than 5 miles north of Washington Dulles International Airport and a few miles south of the Maryland border.

A man who lives nearby said it “looked like an inferno” when the home exploded.

“It was horrific,” John Padgett told CNN affiliate WUSA.

A verified GoFundMe account has been established to raise money for the woman whose house was destroyed in the explosion.

A huge blast in Loudoun County demolished a house there Friday night, shaking the ground and leaving at least one firefighter dead and 12 people injured, according to authorities and witnesses.

The explosion was heard for miles, and James Williams, an assistant chief with Loudoun County Fire and Rescue, described the aftermath of the scene on Silver Ridge Drive as “total devastation.” The cause of the blast remains under investigation.

The Loudoun County fire department said in a release early Saturday that 10 firefighters were injured and two civilians. Williams said Friday night the injuries ranged “from limited to more severe.”

Williams said firefighters were dispatched at around 7:40 p.m. to the home for an investigation that officials later described as a call reporting a gas leak. When firefighters arrived, they found a 500-gallon underground propane tank next to the residence that was leaking, according to a release.

Firefighters requested Loudoun County’s Hazardous Materials Response Team, as well as additional units from Sterling, South Riding. A short time later, firefighters on scene reported a “catastrophic explosion” and received multiple maydays from firefighters inside the residence, according to a release.

A rapid intervention task force was called and additional firefighters from Fairfax County and the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority responded. The department said teams worked to locate and rescue firefighters who were trapped by debris from the home that covered them.

One firefighter was pronounced dead on the scene and the 10 other injured were transported to the hospital. One Fairfax County firefighter was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but was later released overnight, a department spokeswoman said on Saturday.

“This is the worst call that we can respond to, and this is a time where we need to support each other and hold each other up,” Williams said.

Residents in Sterling, near Seneca Ridge and Silver Ridge drives, felt the ground tremble just before 8:24 p.m. The force of the explosion launched debris into the trees and shook homes. People living on the other side of the Potomac River in Montgomery County also felt a shaking.

The blast apparently left little of the house to be seen. Its remnants appeared to sit amid smoke and flame. What appeared to be a piece of the structure or contents was lodged about two stories high in a tree.

Aerial videos of the scene showed what could be taken for a disordered lumberyard, with pieces of the wooden skeleton of a house strewn all over the intersection, partially obscured by rising smoke.

At 9:20 p.m. rescuers were still streaming into the area, and a block around the home had been blocked off.

Meanwhile, neighbors came from their own houses to stare at the scene. One neighbor said on the social media site X that residents emerged from houses after hearing what sounded like a falling tree smashing into a roof.

— Nicki Jhabvala (@NickiJhabvala) February 17, 2024

“The whole house shook,” said John Padgett, a neighbor on Seneca Ridge Drive. “Huge explosion. Unfortunately, I had walked my dog earlier, about an hour, hour and a half earlier, and I smelled gas. Somebody in our neighborhood actually called the fire department to check on a gas leak.”

The cause of the blast remained unknown late Friday night.

Padgett, who does not know the residents of the home, said the aftermath was “horrific” and “looked like something out of a war zone.”

“Some people said their whole walls caved in, concave, almost like a rubber effect,” Padgett said.

Williams said the fire will continue to smolder for an undetermined amount of time before the fire marshal’s office can get into the house to investigate.

The site of Friday night’s corner-lot explosion is in the northeastern part of Loudoun County, in the Cascades/Potomac Falls area, north of Route 7.

It is about two miles south of the Potomac River, and nearer some neighborhoods in Montgomery County, Md., than it is to other parts of Northern Virginia.

The single-family-house community is northeast of Dulles International Airport and about 30 miles northwest of the U.S. Capitol.

This is a developing story and will be updated.

STERLING, Va. — Brian Diamond, 43, remembers every detail of that fateful night: His shift as a volunteer firefighter took an unexpected and devastating turn when he was in the basement of a Sterling home that exploded. Investigators determined a 500-gallon propane tank underground was leaking, causing the blast.

“That’s what characteristic of firemen to be selfless, to be willing to put their own body on the line for someone else,” said Diamond’s father-in-law Rick Schumacher.

Diamond’s in-laws traveled from Rochester, New York, to care for his four young children, ages 8, 6, 4, and 5, while his wife – who is their daughter – remains by his hospital bed.

“He is severely burned and has significant surgeries and many surgeries to go through the whole process,” explained Mr. Schumacher. “It will be a long haul. Thirty days they’re estimating for his stay at the hospital.”

“He grew up in Ohio and met our daughter in DC Public Schools where they were teaching,” added his mother-in-law Barbara Schumacher as her voice cracked with emotion. “They moved out here to Loudoun County. He lost his father at a young age and lost his mother recently, so he’s been through a lot.”

Family members said Diamond is in good spirits and can speak. Doctors are keeping him as pain-free as possible. Meanwhile, they are receiving support from Diamond’s full-time job at J. Michael Lunsford Middle School in South Riding where he and his wife work. The PTA (Parent Teacher Organization) has organized food deliveries and is collecting gift cards.

“They have meals arranged through March 21 so far every night,” said Mrs. Schumacher.

“This is from school where they work, from the neighborhood, and from the church,” added Mr. Schumacher. “It’s been an amazing outpouring of support. We couldn’t have asked for more.”

In fact, donations have been pouring in from community members. Residents were dropping off food for the crew at Firehouse 11 and others laid flowers at a growing memorial by the flag which remains at half-staff in memory of the one fallen firefighter, Trevor Brown.

The Loudoun First Responders Foundation is coordinating funds for all of the injured firefighters.

"They [the fire department] are directing all donations come through our organization,” said Toni Johnson President of the LFRF.

“You can tell Brian really enjoyed being a fireman,” said Mr. Schumacher. “He took it very seriously: the training, the fitness, the willingness to take his shifts. And he was a volunteer, not a professional so that shows his dedication.

“We are very proud of him and thankful his life was spared,” added Mrs. Schumacher.
